Candice Marion Vadala was born in New York on 15 October 1950. “I grew up in the greater New York area in every borough except Staten Island. I spent the first few years of my life in a very pretty section of Brooklyn called Carroll Gardens… My father’s side of the family was part of a large wave of Italian immigrants who settled in Brooklyn.”
Candida’s father, Louis Vadala, was a professional jazz drummer. Her biological mother, Margaret O’Bannon, left when she was only 18 months old. “My father was a very complicated, difficult man who spent more time on his music than he did with the family.
